SRT25 - Day 94
Summer 2025 Road Trip

This morning the radiator was low by a quart. I filled it up yesterday and I’m starting to think I might have a leaky hose somewhere. Since it rained last night I can’t really see where it was leaking from. When we got to the repair shop I talked with one of the managers and he said that depending upon what they find it might take a couple of days to fix. With nothing left for us to do we took a Lyft (aka..taxi) back to the motel and started working on our chores.
First was to finish sorting our stuff, then we took a Lyft (aka.. taxi) to get a haircut. After that it was back to the hotel for a shower and then out again to do laundry. The last thing on our list was grocery shopping.
Around 11 am, I called the repair shop to see if they had found the problem with the truck and they said that they hadn’t found anything yet.
By 3 pm, I was done with my chores and called them again. They said that they couldn’t find any problems and that I should come and pick it up. They recommended that I drive it around and see if I could get it to overheat. So, Bones and I went over and picked up the truck. We drove around for about an hour without any problems.
So I’m not sure what happened to all the coolant. How does a gallon of coolant just disappear? The mechanic told me that I did the right thing by pulling over and letting the truck cool down and adding water to it. If I wasn’t paying attention and kept driving I would have probably blown the engine.
I guess I’m happy that this happened here in one of Maine’s biggest cities. I’m not sure what would have happened, if this had happened in the backwoods of Maine. I could easily have been 50 or 100 miles away from the nearest town and who knows if they would have even had a mechanic or a hotel. So I’m going to call this a win for Bones and I.
