SRT25 - Day 86
Summer 2025 Road Trip
Monday, June 30, 2025
It’s a bright and sunny day and perfect for exploring. Today we’re exploring the southern section of Acadia National Park. Our first stop was at Southwest Harbor. You can really see how much the tide drops here.
Bones: This Lobster trap must have gotten lost in a storm. I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to be in the ocean and not on land.
A few miles down the road we found a great place to go beachcombing near Seawall Point. There were lots of things to see including an old lobster trap. But you have to be careful walking along the shore line. Everything is covered in seaweed and very slippery.
Bones: Lighthouses are really cool.
The view from Bass Harbor Lighthouse is gorgeous on clear days. While talking to the park rangers we found out that on clear days most visitors come to take pictures of sunrise and sunset. After seeing the sunrise at West Quoddy Head Lighthouse I can understand why.

We found another beautiful lake in Acadia National Park that we just had to paddle. Seal Cove Pond is a long narrow lake that is fairly shallow, at its deepest it’s only 12 feet deep. And we had a fun time playing in it.
For dinner we had fresh Fried Clams. The seafood here is really fresh and delicious.
In the afternoon we spent a couple of hours watching Bald Eagles (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) on Thompson Island. Originally we stopped here to use the bathroom but once we heard the eagles cry we changed our plans. Eagles are beautiful birds to watch.
