SRT25 - Day 41
Summer 2025 Road Trip
Friday, May 16, 2025
This morning we’re visiting the Flight 93 National Memorial in Pennsylvania.
The Flight 93 National Memorial was built to commemorate United Airlines Flight 93, which was one of four aircraft that was hijacked during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on America.
The Tower of Voices is a somber reminder of how quickly our lives can change. The Tower has 40 aluminum chimes that are tuned to different frequencies and represent the 40 passengers and crew of United Airlines Flight 93.
Shortly after terrorists flew airplanes into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York and into the Pentagon in Virginia, the 40 passengers and crew members of United Airlines Flight 93 fought a battle in the sky over Pennsylvania. These 40 heroes voted and decided to fight back, thwarting a planned attack on our nation’s capital. They saved the lives of many others, but sacrificed their own in a field just east of Pittsburgh in Somerset County, Pennsylvania.
After visiting the memorial Bones and I needed something to lighten our day and at the recommendations of my Aunt Gerry, we visited Ohiopyle Falls.

Ohiopyle Falls is normally a 20 foot waterfall that spans the Youghiogheny river. The name Ohiopyle or “Ohiopehelle” is believed to be derived from a combination of Native American words which mean “white, frothy water.” And today it is definitely living up to its name.
A short hike across the river is Cucumber Falls. As you can see it’s one of the favorites to visit and play in.
From here Bones and I drove to Pittsburgh to visit my relatives that live in the area.
Since I’ll be staying with my Aunt Gerry for a few days I thought I’d group my journal entries together instead of a daily posting. So there will be a few days that I won’t be posting anything.
