The storm front that I was racing to beat came in yesterday afternoon with rain, thunder and lightning. It continued until lunchtime today. It’s a cold rainy morning. I’m glad to be off the water.
Chas (owner of Pines Resort), Taylor (staff), Doug (staff)
Mike (retired police officer), Ron (retired mechanic), Kevin (retired). Have all been very helpful and generous.
Today is a rest day. We're giving my body a chance to recover from 7 days of paddling and to work on any gear that needs repair. And most importantly, to wash my clothes and pamper Bones and myself.
And for those of you that have been worried about Bones. The procedure was a success and he no longer has to wear his neck brace.
Today I met the grandfather (Brian Marshal) & his grandson (Chase), who are also paddling the Mississippi River. They arrived yesterday at the Winnie Dam campground about an hour after I arrived at the Pine Resort. Surprisingly, we didn’t see each other on the water. Then again, they were using kayaks and crossed directly across Lake Winnibigoshish, whereas I was in my canoe and followed the shoreline.
I hope to see them again later on but they are under a deadline. Chase has to get back before school starts.
Bones: Walleye Fish and Chips was amazing. I've never had anything so delicious! It just melts in your mouth. Yum!
Ron (river angel) has provided us with more river angel magic. Fresh walleye and potatoes for dinner! Thank you Ron, you are awesome! The generosity and hospitality that these people have shown me, has helped restore some of my faith in humanity. Thank you guys for all that you have done for me.
