Today was windy, cold and it sprinkled on and off all day. But the beauty of the land made up for any hardships.
The river started in pine trees today and changed to marsh lands before the end. Each is beautiful in their own respects. The wildlife is very abundant. All kinds of birds from tiny Sand Pipers to majestic white Trumpeter Swans.
Nesting SandHill Cranes
I crossed several beaver dams and the largest log jam of the trip so far. It wasn’t hard to navigate. But I did have to be careful and take my time.
I finished the day at Pine Point campsite. The campsite site is on top of a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River widening into a marsh.
Another cozy Adirondack shelter for the night.
This world of ours is truly beautiful.
While doing my nightly hygiene, I found a tick on me tonight. I’m not happy about it. I’ve been very careful to check for ticks throughout the day. She wasn’t there yesterday so I must have picked her up sometime today. The end of May and all of June is the prime tick season. So I better keep checking and not let my guard down.
Bones: Ticks are GROSS & Disgusting!
Very few mosquitoes. I think the cold weather is keeping them home today.
Wildlife Report :
White tail deer, bald eagles, frogs, turtles, beavers, trumpeter swans, Sandhill cranes, Canadian geese, sandpipers, swallows, red winged blackbirds and several kinds of ducks. And lots of smaller birds that I couldn’t identify.
This is a GPS map of my progress today.
